| I believe the most valuable concept I'm taking away from my first day at the innovation academy comes from the Ted talk presentation on the GOLDEN CIRCLE by Simon Sinek. What struck me the most was how in society everyone knows WHAT they do, less people know HOW and very few truly know WHY. The problem with this is that in reality the WHY or what could also be referred to the purpose is key in order to start any successful project. Leaders who are inspired act, think and are communicating from the inside out of the circle; always STARTING with purpose. Take the apple company as an example: They master this concept expertly when market their products because in all of their adds they start with why they do it, continue by explaining how and at the end what they do which is selling really amazing computers. The key is NOT seeking for success through concentrating in the profit no matter the means but instead being inspired, working towards a goal and success will come along. Another business example who starts with the WHY are TOMS shoes who provide a pair of shoes every time someone purchases one of their products and they make clear to their audience that helping others is their main drive. These tom shoes happen to be extremely popular all around the world when really there’s nothing spectacular about the product itself but what fascinates people is WHY they do it and THATS what they buy. |
As a team we brainstormed about what will drive us these next two years. Maybe, if this question had been asked a year before, I would have set my main goal to be getting top grades and being accepted at the best college. Now that my perspective has shifted, I know that my real purpose should come from WHY I want to do things. As a class we decided we wanted to be EMPOWERED, INNOVATE, LEAD and SERVE. These four powerful words will keep us motivated through out our high school experience. Now that I have been presented the Innovative project I am already brainstorming some options that will allow me to explode my full potential in a subject I'm passionate for in order to explore my interests, fail, learn, give solutions to a problem and give a hand to my community. Consequentially, I have never been so motivated and eager to start working. Awesome first day!
