Michelle Belau is a fashion store that provides a variety of items for women in Peru and today I got the opportunity to explore the production from up close. From 1:30 to 4 I left school and adventured into the world of fashion in order to get a view on the production process and apply it for my upcoming independent project. My initial idea is to create unique bags for teenagers, creating a brand and 'name' that carries a concept and is able to be recognized. This will not only allow me to 'design' but it will expand my knowledge on the world of business from start to finish, learn how to position and market a product, generate budgets, design a logo and manage money. I met with Farid Makhlouf the business manager and chief of the company and learned a few things. I was very happy because he was open about the contacts he used in production and contacted me with his supplier.
| These are some pictures of the hands on investigation When I entered the molding and cutting room I realized how the process of production is so linear in big companies that the workers function as machines, they are not even informed on how the fabric will be used. When I asked them what specific textile was used to make bags they had no idea. Their only knowledge on the job was what scissors to use depending on the delicacy of the material to avoid ruining it. |
