They say time flies by when your having fun-- AGREED, second week of surfing is already crossed off my calendar now and I have to say it's going flashing by!
The moment a seven year old in my level had already ascended to intermediate level by the second class I realized I had to "ponerme las pilas". This was an eye opener and it became clear to me that mentor's are just fascilitators, its really up to YOU to get the most out of any class you take in life. It IS up to me to make the most of the two following weeks I've got left. If I love this sport because it makes my stress vanish I have to also be consious that you can't always exceed in everything you do, at least not at the beggining-- it takes HARD WORK. |

your never too old to learn ( but...)Yes, it is true that you are never too old to learn but the older you are (and the bigger you get) it is more difficult to get the hang of the movement. It is proven that "adults store new information in a slower pace than children because their neurons in memories centers of the brain function differently" (scientists at University of Oxford) Well.. I am not an adult and that sounds too scientific anyways but what it means is that the first years of life is when your brain is developing the most and in fastest rate so the practices you do in those years are more likely to be remembered and you might have an easier grip of the situation and the learning in general. Cali standing up 5/6 times today showed me that It's never too late to learn BUT it also reminded me something Mr. Topf told the IA in a class: |
( | Whatever you do today will afect who you are tomorrow, | ) |
You are never to old to learn BUT it's still true that as you get older it gets harder, not because you are less capable of doing the activity but because it becomes UP TO YOU to push yourself and there is not always some one behind you to push your board. Cali joining the classes is TONS of fun and inspirational; yes she works closer to the shore where waves are smaller but if she's not scared of the waves I shouldn't be aswel! |
You can't stop the future, you can't rewind the past, the only thing you can learn to do is to press
